Storage Temperature
Fried green tomatoes are truly a tasty tradition. Slice green tomatoes; dip slices in beaten egg; coat with flour; season as desired; fry in hot oil until golden. To bake green tomatoes, cut tomatoes in half; arrange in oiled shallow casserole. Season with salt and pepper. Spread one tablespoon of brown sugar on each half. Cover with three cups coarse buttered cracker crumbs; dot with two sticks butter. Bake at 350 degrees thirty to forty minutes until tender but still firm. Baking time depends on the size and greenness of tomatoes. One-half inch slices may be used in this recipe. Note: Green tomatoes must be cooked and cannot be eaten raw.
